Intro:

However, in general construction they consist of one set of fixed plates called stator and one set of moving plates. These two sets are locked together in such a way that when the shaft rotates the moving set moves in or out. A thin sheet of air or plastic is used as an insulating material or dielectric between the two plates.

When one end of the capacitors is connected to the other end, it is called a series circuit.If the capacitors are connected in series circuit and their capacitance is C1+C2+C3 respectively, the formula to find their total capacitance is:
1/Ct = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3 + --------- + 1/Cn
A series circuit results in a value of total capacitance greater than the minimum value.

If the first end of each capacitor is connected to one end of the source and the second end is connected to the other end of the source, then this circuit is called a capacitor parallel circuit.
If three capacitors are connected in parallel circuit and their capacitances are C1, C2, C3 respectively then the total capacitance will be CT. Ct = C1+ C2+ C3 parallel circuit resulting in total capacitance greater than individual capacitances.

If a large number of capacitors are connected some in series and others in parallel it is called series parallel or mixed circuit.
Necessity of Circuit of Capacitors
When the capacitor is of fixed value, its capacitance cannot be increased or decreased. If necessary, its value can be increased or decreased with the help of a circuit. The voltage rating of the capacitor can also be changed with the help of the circuit. The maximum voltage up to which the capacitor operates is called the voltage rating of the capacitor. This voltage rating is expressed by the English letter V.
Connecting the capacitor in series circuit results in low value of capacitor and connecting in parallel circuit increases the value of capacitor.
