Intro:
A substance that has inductive properties is called an inductor. Inductance is a property of electrical circuits that resists sudden changes in electrical circuit current flow. Comparing the inductance with the speed of inertia of the flywheel of the engine is Just as the speed of the flywheel cannot suddenly increase or decrease due to inertia, inductance also prevents any sudden changes in the current flow in the circuit.
Inductor
Inductor |
A property of a coil which prevents the change of current flow is called inductance and the coil is called an inductor. An inductor can be compared to the inertia of a flywheel. The object in which the religion of inductance exists is called an inductor.
Inductor is denoted by English capital letter L. Its single henry.
Inductors are mainly of two types:
- Fixed Inductor.
- Variable Inductor
Fixed Inductor
Fixed Inductor |
An inductor whose value is fixed and cannot be increased or decreased as required is called a fixed inductor.
Fixed inductors are of different types:
- Air core inductor.
- Iron core inductor.
- Ferrite Iron Core Inductor.
Variable Inductor
Variable Inductor |
An inductor whose value is not fixed but the value can be changed from zero to a specified maximum as required is called a variable inductor. The variable inductor core looks like a scoop. This inductor is commonly used in audio frequency chokes, electromagnetic relays and split phase motors.
Variable inductors are of different types:
- Variable inductor with taping.
- Variable inductor with iron core.
- Variable inductor with dustcar.
Inductor circuits are of three types.
- Series Circuit
- Parallel Circuit
- Mixed Circuit
Series Circuit
Inductor Series Circuit |
When several inductors are circuited in such a way that any end of the first inductor is connected to any end of the second inductor. If the other end of the second inductor is connected to any end of the third inductor and so on, then such a circuit is called a series circuit.
Determination of total inductance of series circuit:
- Total inductance of the circuit.
Lt = L1 + L2 + L3 + ....... + Ln - Total Current of the circuit.
It = I1 = I2 = I3 = ....... = In
Parallel Circuit
Inductor Parallel Circuit |
If the inductors are connected in such a way that one end of all of them is connected to a common point and the other ends of all are connected to another common point, then this type of circuit is called a parallel circuit. Parallel circuits are made when the current rating is to be increased and the inductance value is to be reduced.
Determination of total inductance of series circuit:
- Total inductance of the circuit.
1/Lt = 1/L1 + 1/L2 + 1/L3 + 1/L4 + ....... + 1/Ln - Total Current of the circuit.
It + I1 + I2 + I3 + ....... + In
Mixed Circuit
Inductor Mixed Circuit |
When several inductors are connected in series and parallel combination it is called series parallel circuit or mixed circuit of inductors. The equivalent inductance value of this type of circuit is determined from series and parallel combinations.
- First determine the inductance of the parallel circuit.
1/Lt = 1/L1 + 1/L2 + 1/L3 + 1/L4 + ....... + 1/Ln - All these inductors must be connected in series.
- Then the total inductance has to be determined according to the series formula.
Lt = L1 + L2 + L3 + ....... + Ln
Necessity of Circuit of Inductors:
1. Circuit Requirements: When the required inductance or current rating cannot be obtained using a single inductor, several inductors are circuited together.
2. Requirement of series circuit: Through series circuit, inductance value can be increased anywhere and current rating can be reduced.
3. Necessity of parallel circuit: Parallel circuit increases the current rating, reduces the value of inductance.
4. Requirement of Mixed Circuit: When the value of inductance and current rating cannot be obtained by parallel circuit alone, mixed circuit is applied to obtain the desired value.
